New report provides an investigation into the petrochemical sector: huge state sums paid to the oil industry
The report, Petrochemicals and climate change: Powerful fossil fuel lock-ins and interventions for transformative change, provides an investigation into the petrochemical sector.
It is co-written by Fredric Bauer, Associate senior lecturer at Environmental and Energy Systems Studies, and active within STEPS.
The report highlights the rapid expansion of the petrochemical sector as well as the range and growth of economic, infrastructural, and political interlinkages with the fossil fuel extraction sector. It argues that these developments and dynamics are crucial to understanding pathways, strategies, and interventions for a low-carbon transition for petrochemicals.
The report is the result of a collaborative research project on petrochemicals and climate change governance.
